MXC Farms Out Race Duties and Honors at McKinney-Boyd Meet

Dateline, Saturday, September 14, 2013, McKinney, TX – Boyd HS CC Meet: Today’s meet was the first of the year with low humidity and pleasant temps – it 097didn’t break 80 for any of today’s races. Thanks to a pleasant, strong breeze out of the North and uninterrupted sunshine, it was an absolutely gorgeous day for racing over the rolling hills of Myers Park in McKinney, TX. This weather was a totally welcome change of pace for Marcus Cross race fans.

165MXC fans also were treated today to another change of pace – Coach T’s decision to rest both Varsity teams at the Myers Park farmland. While the MXC varsity teams enjoyed a little respite from racing, they still had to complete a hill workout before the day’s races. And Coach T’s staffing decision by no means meant that Marcus was under represented by a bunch of farm hands.

While this was the first taste of varsity racing for a majority of runners promoted from the 082first seven of JV to Varsity/Elite today, it will no doubt not be their last taste of varsity competition over their MXC careers, let alone this season, as racing at the varsity and elite levels will help raise the entire team’s level of competitiveness. Today’s meet will hopefully pay dividends the rest of the season, as everyone pushes their teammates to run faster 040058and harder over the remainder of the season.

The boys’ second seven ran in the Elite event and finished 9th overall, but had four runners turn in times under 17:00 on a very hilly, tough challenging course.

Marcus XC McKinney V Women 2013-1The girls’ second seven proved to be magnificent in the Varsity event, finishing first, with the top five all finishing under 21:00, and earning some nice hardware.

The boys’ JV, minus the seven who ran in the Elite event, 124took a very respectable 3rd.

The girls’ JV, under identical conditions, did the same, also 239placing a most welcome 3rd.

It was a great day to see some fresh faces today at the head of the field out at the farm, and these Marauders proved by their performances that it was by no means their first rodeo. 🙂

  1. Thank you for the racing report. Congratulations to all the young men and women that “stepped up” and ran at the front yesterday. You can not lead from the back. God Bless you.
