Dateline: September 22, 2012 – Marcus II Invitational, Copperas Branch Park – Lake Lewisville, Highland Village, Texas: On what proved an extremely hot, clear, sunny day on the shores of Lake Lewisville, the Marcus Marauders XC Team showed up “blue whale“ big at the Marcus Booster Club hosted Marcus II Invitational Cross Country Meet.
The day’s soundtrack may very well have been: “Dun-dun! Dun-dun! Dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun, Da-Na-Na!” Like great whites in a feeding frenzy smelling blood in the water, the Marauders were indeed back, and building momentum from last week.
Reaching deep down into their reservoir tank, each MXC team left the competition high and dry, washed up on the beach, whaling and gasping for air, as the Marauders absolutely smoked ’em by the water (that’s Deep Purple, get it?). The Marauders dove right in from the first race, going with the flow and riding a high tide and tsunami-like wave.
For back to back week’s the Marauders van-quenched the competition, mine sweeping into First Place finishes – across the board – in the Girls Varsity, Girls’ JV, Boys’ Varsity and Boys’ JV races. Now that’s the ultimate XC team version of synchronized swimming! Getting their dew rewards from another great week of training, they boiled the ocean, found their NeMO, and pulled off a true “Rock Lobster!”
ASIDE: A big shout out again to all the MXC volunteers, both parents and friends of the MXC program, including our good friends at Lake Cities Cross Country, for giving up most of their Saturday (many of whom also surrendered their Friday for course set-up and other pre-race team activities) to put on an extremely well run meet at a site that we will unfortunately lose the next few years due to upcoming I-35 Lake Lewisville bridge construction. For the thirsty and hungry, especially given the meet’s extended duration due to the heat and increased 4A & 5A girls’ race distances, we were fortunate that the MXC Commissary & Concession Stand was so well stocked!
And now for something completely different – yet another PSA – a repeat pitch from this surfer dude (am I getting too see Nile?) to please throw me a life line before they put me in a backwards life jacket – for all of you to please consider submitting some copy for our MXC website – analyzing meet results, reporting program history, interviewing our great coaches, giving a shout out to our sponsors (check ’em out on our Sponsors Page) or our super hero like MXC Program friends, etc., before I’m on my last legs, running on all empties, a long dis-taunt “punning” joke!
To see pics from the Meet, please go to the Marcus II Photo page. Of course, as usual, we need you to post your pics to the Marcus Shutterfly site so we can populate the photo gallery – so please upload your best as soon as you can!
