UIL Realignment for 2012 Season and Girls Distance Change

Just in case you missed it – UIL realigned the 5A schools this past year and Marcus now
finds itself competing in District 5 (identified as District 5-5A).  The District 5 schools grouped with Marcus are as follows: Coppell, Denton Ryan, Flower Mound, Hebron and Lewisville. http://www.uiltexas.org/cross-country/alignments

We know there’s no way any of the Girls have missed this additional bit of news from UIL: Class 4A and 5A Girls’ Varsity distances have been increased from 2 miles to the boys’ 5K (5000 meters) distance of 3.1 miles. Class 1A, 2A and 3A remain at the shorter distance. http://www.uiltexas.org/leaguer/article/track-preview-and-changes-for-2012-13-cross-country-and-track  Note that it is possible that at some meets, the meet organizers may revert to a shorter distance for JV girls, per UIL Rules.

Finally, on a related note, as discussed in greater detail on the News, Notes and Press page, UIL has voted to add an “Area” meet for Track between Districts and Regionals. Areas that align to create Area meets in Spring 2013 will advance 4 runners, not three, from their District meets to the Area meet.  Districts that fail to align to create an Area meet will only advance two runners from District to the Regional.
